HILLSDALE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Hillsdale County Republican Party Chairman and local attorney Daren Wiseley was arrested and taken to the Hillsdale County Jail Thursday morning following a warrant from a judge in Osceola County, Florida for failing to appear for an arraignment hearing regarding charges of assaulting a first responder.
According to the Hillsdale Daily News, Wiseley was initially arrested on a felony charge on Aug. 7 in Kissimmee, Florida following an altercation with a first responder who was on scene helping a friend of Wiseley’s who was reportedly sick. He allegedly used verbal threats towards the firefighter then grabbed and pushed him.

In Florida, the battery against a firefighter which was charged as a third degree felony in this case, has a punishment of six months in prison.
He denied assaulting a firefighter when interviewed by police, and posted bond for his pretrial release in order to leave and return to Michigan. By Sept. 5 he filed for a waiver of arraignment in a Florida court where he was scheduled for arraignment Sept. 6.
However, a clerical error led to his arrest on Thursday morning due to his failure to appear for arraignment on Sept. 6.
Wisely sent a text to The Hillsdale Daily News stating that he was released from the Hillsdale County Jail after the clerical error was corrected.
This arrest comes 12 days after Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser released a statement recognizing Mr. Wiseley as the legitimate chairman of the Hillsdale County Republican Party.
Mr. Wiseley was voted to be removed as party chairman during a special meeting called by statutory members of the Hillsdale County Republican Party. In Mr. Weiser’s statement he labeled this special meeting – which was called and conducted by members of the traditional Republican faction – as illegitimate; thus maintaining Mr. Wiseley’s status as party chairman.
