DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Hard decisions were made on Tuesday night as the Detroit Lions let players know who were going to stay on the 2022 roster. One of the biggest surprises was letting quarterback Tim Boyle go. The Eastern Kentucky grad was in his second season with Detroit after throwing for 526 yards last year. With the release of Boyle, Detroit will save $1.75 million against the cap.
Another area that was loaded with talent was at running back. Detroit kept four in D’Andre Swift, Jamaal Williams, Craig Reynolds, and Jermar Jefferson. Justin Jackson was relased and Godwin Igwebuike was waived. There were six receivers that stayed on the team but Tom Kennedy, Trinity Benson (waived-injured), Kallil Pimpleton, and Maurice Alexander. First-round draft pick Jameson Williams is still on the reserve/NFI list.

On defense, three players didn’t make the cut as linebackers in Anthony Pittman, Jarrad Davis, and James Houston. The secondary let five players go in AJ Parker, Mark Gilbert, Savion Smith, Cedric Boswell, and CJ Moore.
In his last press conference, head coach Dan Campbell said, “This is one of the hardest things to do as a head coach and not a fun part of the job.”
Detroit will open up their season Sunday, September 11, hosting Philadelphia.
