ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – It has been the dilemma since the spring for the University of Michigan on who will be the face of the offense. Up-and-coming J.J. McCarthy or veteran Cade McNamara? Head Coach Jim Harbaugh has been mum on the situation from the beginning saying both are could be the starters.

The decision has been made, sort of. Harbaugh made a statement via the Michigan Football twitter account say, “It’s a great thing for our team (to have two starting quarterbacks) but there’s only one ball and only one quarterback can be out there at a time. So we’re not ready to say who that starting quarterback is, but the decision that we have made is Cade McNamara will start the opener against Colorado State and J.J. McCarthy will start the second ball game against Hawaii, and then after week two we will make a decision going into week three on the starter and backup.”

So once again, there is no decision on who will lead the Wolverines. A trial of starters will take place in the first two games of the season with a decision to be made for week three. The question remains if there will ever really one starting quarterback for Harbaugh. The way he has talked since last year a two-quarterback system may work and there may never be a true starting quarterback.

Harbaugh believes in both quarterbacks and says, “Both quarterbacks have played great – done everything they could have and, in every way, to win the starting job. Coming out of camp, I just feel like we have two quarterbacks, Cade McNamara and J.J. McCarthy, that we feel very confident that we can win a championship with either of those two behind center.”

As they say in Texas – QB1 will lead the team but for Michigan it will be QB1a and QB1b.
