ZEELAND, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Artists and admirers are invited to Zeeland’s third annual “Zeeland Chalk Festival” on Friday, Aug. 26. Local artists will showcase their chalk wielding abilities while competing for a prize.

On Friday, artists will have the opportunity to demonstrate their artistic prowess on the downtown cement. Located in downtown Zeeland on Elm Street (between Cherry and Main Streets), local artists of all ages will compete using only chalk in 6 x 6 ft spaces.

Competitors will have a 12-hour window to construct their pieces beginning at 8 am. Those attending the Chalk Festival may watch the artists as they create their pieces real time from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the afternoon.

A myriad of amateur to professional artists ranging from high schoolers to adults will be able to participate in the competition. A special new addition to the festival this year will allow for younger artists to make their debut in a separate competition for the youth.

The winners of both competitions will be announced on social media Saturday.

Besides the live art, guests are also invited to participate in other outdoor pleasures such as food trucks, live music, and yard games.

Guests are invited to vote for their favorite artist and enjoy the free event provided by the city of Zeeland and sponsored by Zeeland Ace Hardware and the Board of Public Works.
