Having over 30 offers, his finalists were MSU, Ohio State, Penn State, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh. He is the no. 3 player in Michigan and no. 197 overall player in the 2023 class by the 247sports composite site.
The commitment was a bit of a shock coming this early but Thompson says, “I wanted to focus on the season as this is my senior year and it’s time to get serious. I didn’t want my commitment to interfere with the season. So I felt like it was the time and brought my family up there and they all liked it. It’s an opportunity for me to play close to home.”
Thompson heads into the 2022 fall season as the no. 30 defensive lineman in the nation (247Sports ranking) standing at 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds. Last year he posted 42 tackles and 10 sacks. Heading into the fall, he says, “I am going to prepare myself and get ready for the next level as I enroll early after the fall. I want to fix little techniques to help me better my game. I want to start to learn to watch film better for the college game and get use to being on the college level.”
He is now one of three defensive lineman in the 2023 class with other four-stars in Bai Jobe (Oklahoma) and Andrew Depaepe (Iowa)
