DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – In a game that featured the second and third string players, Detroit played like a new team holding off Indianapolis, 27-26, for the win. With 45 seconds left in the game and pulling with one, Indianapolis opted to go for two-points but was denied as Detroit held onto the win.
All of the main starters, both offense and defense, along with the top rookies, didn’t participate in the game. Tim Boyle and David Blough ran the offense finishing with 322 total yards. Boyle threw for 99 yards going 12-of-15 with a touchdown. Blough followed with a 16-of-22 performance for 76 yards and one touchdown. Justin Jackson was the top rusher with 54 yards on seven attempts. Godwin Igwebuike rushed for one touchdown. Trinity Benson caught four passes for 44 yards but Tom Kennedy stole the show for receiving with two touchdowns. Defensively, Jeff Okudah was the big name playing the first half trying to earn a starting job.

It was neck-to-neck the entire game down to the final minute. It started with two field goals in the first quarter. Detroit hit theirs first from 28-yards out by Austin Seibert. The Colts answered with a26-yard field goal with 6:12 left. The second quarter brought 10 points each for a 17-17 tie at the half.
Seibert nailed a 40-yard field goal for the 6-3 lead but Indianapolis answered right back with 40-yard field goal to tie the game. A 15-yard touchdown pass for Indianapolis gave them a 13-6 lead but Blough found Kennedy from five-yards out to tie it at 13 to end the half.
Boyle threw the only touchdown pass in the third quarter to Kennedy on a 10-yard reception for the 20-13 lead. The Colts did, though, have a 50-yard pass to tie the game at 20. Taking 9:32 off the clock with a 21-play drive that ended with a rushing touchdown putting Detroit up, 27-20. Igwebuike rushed past the right guard for a two-yard score securing the lead again. Indianapolis in a hurry up offense went 75-yards scoring on a 26-yard pass. The ensuing two-point conversion fell incomplete as Detroit earned their first preseason win since 2018.
