GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A storied program and a team that just won the national championship lead the way for NCAA Division II football in Michigan. Ferris State University is the reigning national champion and number one team in the preseason while Grand Valley State continues their rich tradition with a preseason ranking of fifth from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
Ferris State was the consensus number one team in the nation in both the AFCA and Lindy’s Sports preseason polls. In the AFCA poll, they received all 30 first-place votes and currently have a 38-game consecutive winning streak. They have won 31-straight GLIAC games and went 14-0 last year. They have made the NCAA playoffs for seven years straight, won the last three GLIAC championships, and made the national quarter finals in the past five years.

GVSU enters their 51st season of football and has been ranked in the top 10 of a preseason poll 18 times since 2002 including 15 top five rankings being in the top three 12 times. They come into this season in fifth place and open the 2022 season against number four Colorado School of Mines. They return 59 letter winners, 18 starters, and eight All-GLIAC players.
Ferris State and GVSU meet on October 15 in Big Rapids in the Anchor-Bone Classic.
