LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – Tens of thousands of people in Michigan could soon have infractions taken off their driver’s licenses.

On Friday, Michigan is expected to stop suspending driver’s licenses for reasons other than driving safety.  This includes infractions like failing to appear in court or unpaid fees.

The move comes after new laws were passed last year.

More than 73,000 people in Michigan are estimated to have infractions removed.

About half will be able to use their licenses or get new ones right away.

The Michigan Department of State will be sending letters to anyone affected with instructions about how to get their license back.
