The weekend ice storm took its toll on WKHQ-FM’s radio tower. The 630-foot structure collapsed Sunday night, March 30th, due to the weight of the ice. The tower is located in Charlevoix County just northeast of East Jordan.

On Monday morning, they posted on Instagram, “We are working to figure out how we can get back on the air as soon as possible.”

According to Inside Radio, MacDonald Garber Broadcasting’s Peter Garber said the tower site “is completely inaccessible due to downed trees and power lines. But we do have a plan to get KHQ up and running via a backup as soon as we are able to do the work.”

WCMU’s broadcast signals in northern Michigan have also been impacted by the ice storm. The following stations are currently off the air due to power outages.
