LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) —Tesla customers in Michigan are navigating protests and property damage as showrooms across the country come under attack following CEO Elon Musk’s work with the Trump administration.

While Michigan has avoided the most violent incidents—such as arson and firebombings reported in other states—protesters have gathered outside showrooms in Troy, West Bloomfield, and Ann Arbor. In Kentwood, police reported that five Cybertrucks were vandalized in a mall parking lot, with messages like “Nazis always lose” spray-painted on the vehicles, according to The Detroit News.

“It seems Tesla vehicles have always been targets, but not to this extent,” Scott Pokriefka, president of the Tesla Owners Club of Michigan, said. “It’s unfortunate that these issues unfolded in Kentwood. I will still drive my Tesla.”

Tesla’s Somerset Mall showroom in Troy, located on private property, has not seen direct disruptions. However, demonstrations have occurred repeatedly at other Michigan locations. Tesla locations elsewhere in Michigan-including West Bloomfield and Ann Arbor—have been the site of repeated protests.

Some owners in the state say they are taking precautions by removing Tesla logos from their vehicles or relying on the brand’s Sentry Mode camera system. Others report switching brands, citing concerns about vandalism and repeated confrontations near service centers.

Nationally, the protest campaign escalated on March 30, when more than 500 Tesla locations were targeted as part of a coordinated “Global Day of Action.” In Seattle, four Cybertrucks were set on fire. In Las Vegas, multiple vehicles were destroyed by Molotov cocktails and gunfire. In Oregon, a Tesla showroom sustained damage from eight firebombs.

To date, more than 50 attacks on Tesla facilities and charging stations have been reported in the U.S. this year.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said the Justice Department is investigating the incidents as “domestic terrorism.” Musk has also described the coordinated actions as “wide-scale domestic terrorism.”
