DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane has been nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. This award is given out every year in the NHL to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey.

The Detroit chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association chose Kane. He says, “I appreciate the honor. That means a lot.”

After hip surgery in 2023, Detroit took a chance on signing Kane to a try-and-see deal in November. He scored 20 goals last year and has done the same this year, marking the 17th time in his career that he has scored 20 or more goals in a season. After the 2024 season, Steve Yzerman signed Kane to another one-year contract and most likely will do it again for the three-time Stanley Cup Champion.

In the Detroit Free Press article, Kane said, “I’m really appreciative of Steve and the organization to take a chance on me coming back from surgery. This place has been a great place for me to continue my career. I’ve really enjoyed it.”

He has helped Detroit become a playoff contender again this season. They are on the bubble in the final five games, and Detroit now needs help to make the playoffs after a 4-1 loss to Montreal on Tuesday night.

They face Florida on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. and Tampa Bay on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
