LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – As President Trump’s second term barrels toward its 100-day mark, Michigan Democratic Attorney General Dana Nessel has unveiled a dedicated online portal called the Federal Actions Tracker, a handy new tool to help the public follow her relentless legal crusade against the Trump Administration.

According to Nessel, the portal is a beacon of transparency “designed to keep residents informed on significant federal actions and how they impact Michigan residents.”

Since Trump took office for the second time, Nessel has filed 10 lawsuits and submitted 17 amicus briefs – all under the banner of “protecting Michiganders.” However, according to her critics, it’s more of a partisan plan of warfare against the president.

In a Michigan House committee hearing in March regarding the weaponization of state government, former AG Mike Cox said it was not the job of the state attorney general to assert their own politics into their job. Instead, they need to uphold the law. He testified, “The Michigan Constitution is a mosaic of the people of Michigan, and it’s not like a box of candy where you get to choose if you like the caramels or the raspberry cream…You have to defend the Constitution, even if you disagree with them, and politics should not be at the heart of what you do. The laws of governing the people of the state of Michigan should be the heart of what you do.”

Nessel dubs herself the Trump lawsuit czar.

In her press release about the new tracker, Nessel says, “Left unchallenged, Donald Trump’s unlawful actions would have grave consequences for Michigan and, as Attorney General, it is my responsibility to defend the rights of our residents and uphold the rule of law.”

Nessel goes on to say, “Michiganders deserve to know how these illegal federal actions affect their lives and how my office, alongside attorneys general across the country, are fighting back. This tracker makes it easier for residents to follow our ongoing efforts to hold Donald Trump and his administration accountable.”

Nessel blurs the line between law enforcement and partisan political theater.

Nessel has been crisscrossing the state – from Traverse City to Grand Rapids and beyond – holding public forums to explain why she’s spending so much of her time suing the federal government. With even more town halls scheduled for Lansing, Southville and Roseville, the state’s Democratic AG is wasting no time being the Michigan face of the Trump resistance.

Nessel has also been busy rolling out a reporting tool for Michiganders experiencing issues with their Social Security benefits. Citing the Trump administration as being reckless by laying off Social Security Administration employees across the country, Nessel says her office will use the information from the web tool to make reports, identify patterns and advocate for affected Michiganders. The website, however, makes it clear that the attorney general’s office is a state agency and is “unable to provide direct assistance” to anyone having problems.

If it seems like Michigan’s attorney general is spending more time acting as a political commentator than the state’s top law enforcement officer, you’re not alone. With her growing list of lawsuits and public statements aimed at the Trump administration, some Michiganders are starting to ask: Is Dana Nessel the attorney general of Michigan, or the self-appointed lead prosecutor of Nessel vs. the Trump Administration?
