LIVONIA, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The city of Livonia is promoting a complete renovation of its government buildings at a $217 million cost, which it wants to partially fund with a voter-approved $150 million bond on the ballot.
The plan for the $150 million bond would include demolishing the old library and building a new one ($37.5 million), new police headquarters ($66.7 million), renovations to existing fire stations ($16 million), a City Center Plaza that includes a greenway, recreation pond and nature trail ($19.1 million) and another $10.7 million for parking and demolishing the existing city hall.

The city says its population is decreasing and getting older.
The city sees the project in three phases. The first phase is a new Livonia Senior Wellness Center that would be completed in 2025. The Senior Wellness Center would cost $27 million and grant funding has been secured.
Phase 2 would be the new City Hall, to be completed in 2026-27 with bond funding secured for that phase. The third phase would be the new police station, to be completed in 2028.
“We can step up to all three challenges and make Livonia a city our children want to come home to,” the city stated in its report to the City Council.
