Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said her office will step in. βAt some point, we have to ask how long utility companies like DTE and Consumers Energy will be allowed to treat customer bills and our energy rates like a blank check.”
DTE Energy spokesperson Ryan Lowry defended the company’s request. “DTE Energy is making progress on building the electric grid of the future β when we invest, it works,” he said.
If the rate increase is approved, it would go into effect as early as February 2026.
