DETROIT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Detroit City Council approved $2 million in spending from its opioid settlement to provide housing and treatment services for recovering addicts in the Greater Detroit area.

The city council approved a $1.2 million contract for Self Help Addiction Rehabilitation-SHAR House and an $806,436 contract with Second Chance 2000, Inc. at its April 1 meeting.

Detroit projects that it will receive about $22 million in the opioid settlement and its first payment of $4.4 million arrived in 2023.

The state of Michigan will get more than $800 million over the next 18 years in a settlement with opioid manufacturers, distributors, and pharmacies that settled lawsuits against these companies throughout the U.S.
