ROSCOMMON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Roscommon has officially nestled into history by becoming the first community to earn the Bird City Michigan designation from Michigan Audubon.

With this honor, Roscommon is aiming to install the largest Kirtland Warbler statue at the Craft Center. In addition, it is home to the Kirtland Warbler Festival.

So far, nearly $16,000 of the more than $37,000 needed for the 6-foot-tall statue has been raised.

According to Michigan Audubon, Bird City Michigan focuses on habitat, reducing threats to birds, sustainability, and engagement and education. It stated, “Bird City Michigan aims to introduce more people to the joys of birding while educating them on how to protect critical habitats.”
