LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan native Pete Hoekstra is scheduled for a confirmation hearing in front of the U.S. Senate on Thursday morning. Hoekstra has been tapped by President Donald Trump for a second time to become an ambassador for his administration.

Hoekstra, who served as ambassador to the Netherlands during the first Trump administration, is now on deck to become the next ambassador to Canada.

This ambassadorship puts Hoesktra in a unique position with Michigan’s neighbor to the north. Hoekstra will likely play a role in the 30-day pause on tariffs with Canada. In addition, Canadian-based Enbridge Energy is continuing with its $500 million tunnel project in the Straits of Mackinac. It provides energy to much of Michigan, but the Whitmer administration and Attorney General Dana Nessel are continuing to fight in the courts to shut it down.
