EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Clinging to just a five-point lead at the half, 33-28, Michigan State ran away with the game in the second half, outscoring Bryant, 54-34, for the 25-point win, 87-62. MSU is now 30-8 in first-round games in 37 tournament appearances.

Coen Carr came off the bench to lead MSU with 18 points and nine rebounds, shooting 70 percent. Jase Richardson added 15 points, and Tre Holloman scored 14 points.

Bryant was within six, 46-40, five minutes into the second, but couldn’t catch the Spartans. At 12:53, Richardson nailed a three-pointer for a 10-point lead, 52-42. MSU still only had a 10-point lead, 58-49, at 10:04 before finishing the game out scoring Bryant, 29-13. The Spartans held Bryant to no points for three minutes, taking a 16-point lead, 65-49, at 7:46. Holloman hit a three-pointer at 5:46, giving MSU a 20-point lead, 73-53. Richardson put MSU up by 25 points, 83-58, with 2:37 left to play on a layup. Nick Sanders banked in a layup with under a minute to play for the largest lead of the game of 27 points, 87-60. Bryant hit a layup with 37 seconds left for the game’s final points.

MSU faces New Mexico in the second round at 8:40 p.m. on Sunday night on TNT.
