MONROE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Jurors deliberated less than two hours before returning a guilty verdict against a Monroe County woman accused of driving drunk through the wall of a boat club on April 20, 2024.

On Thursday, a jury found 67-year-old Marshella Chidester guilty of all counts and rejected the argument that medical issues lead to her slamming into the boat club and killing two children at a birthday party.

Additionally, Chidester’s actions also injured a dozen others. She faces up to life in prison when she is sentenced May 15.

The former commodore of the Swan Boat Club lived just yards from where the crash happened. The verdict followed a four-day trial in which prosecutors painted a picture of Chidester as a long-time drinker. Her blood alcohol was later found to be 0.18 , which is more than twice the legal limit.
