AMASA, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The state of Michigan is a major player in March Madness.

Connor Sports, a premier dance floor and basketball court contractor in the Upper Peninsula community of Amasa, manufactured the wooden courts for the 2025 NCAA tournament games. In fact, Connor Sports has put Amasa on the map since becoming the official court supplier of NCAA March Madness in 2006.

Zach Riberdy, the marketing director at Connor Sports, told Michigan News Source this is a slam dunk for the company and for him personally. “Every year is something special for us,” Riberdy said. “I come from a lifelong basketball family. So being involved in this tournament on a personal basis is amazing.”

The Iron County-based business boasts anywhere from 125-160 employees, depending on the season. Riberdy said the start-to-finish process for the floors takes some time. “The floors themselves take 8 months to a year,” he said. “Once the wood is ready, it’s sent to the portables department where they put together the floor.” Riberdy said from there the floor heads to the company’s finishing partners in Ohio and Texas.

Riberdy admitted the number of floors Connor Sports has constructed for the NCAA over the last twenty years is a moving target. “We look at projects in total amount of square feet, not individual courts,” he said. “But it’s safe to say we make one to two million square feet of floor each year.” Riberdy also added, “That number has grown exponentially.”

Basketball fans can check out Connor Sports floors in action when the Michigan Wolverines and the MSU Spartans play in the Sweet Sixteen this weekend.

“Amasa is a postage size stamp town,” Riberdy said. “The reach across the country is incredible,” he said.
