ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan is headed to the Sweet 16 as the Wolverines outscored Texas A&M 56-40 in the second half for a 91-79 win over Texas A&M. Roddy Gayle, Jr., led Michigan with 26 points, scoring 21 in the second half as Vladislav Goldin produced a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds after being down 10 points early on.
Michigan outmuscled the Aggies on the boards, 48-39, and shot 43 percent from the floor, scoring 42 points in the paint. Danny Wolf gave 14 points and nine rebounds with three blocks as L.J. Cason came off the bench for 11 points.

Texas A&M was within three, 82-79, with 1:29 to play, but Michigan went 7-of-8 from the line with a key bucket from Tre Donaldson. He gave Michigan a four-point lead, 84-79, with just under a minute left, and Wolf grabbed a defensive rebound 12 seconds later after an Aggie miss. Texas A&M missed two shots and turned the ball over in the final 45 seconds as Michigan solidified the win from the foul line. Michigan’s defense held Texas A&M to just one made shot in the last few minutes as the Aggies missed eight of their last nine shots in the Wolverines 9-0 run.
It was a different story in the first half as Michigan’s offense sputtered in the final two and a half minutes. After taking a 35-34 lead on Goldin’s free throws, Michigan missed their last seven shots to trail 39-35 at the half. The two teams went back and forth in the first half, as Michigan had a 17-11 lead at 12:55. In just over two minutes, the Aggies went on a 10-1 run for a three-point lead, 21-18, at 9:03. Gayle, Jr., hit a three-pointer at 4:16 to tie the game at 31 and Goldin’s free throws at 2:18 put the Wolverines back in front by one, 35-34. Texas A&M finished the final two minutes strong for a four-point lead at the half.
Michigan heads to the Sweet 16 after a 24-loss season last year. Head coach Dusty May rebuilt Michigan in his first year after being in the Final Four last year with Florida Atlantic. Michigan has won five times in the previous nine days and will face the winner of the Auburn-Creighton game in Atlanta next week.
