FLINT, Mich. (Michigan News Source)–Genesee County set a record for total revenues in 2024, breaking the $300 million mark for the first time, according to records it submitted to the state on March 17.

The county’s total revenues – which include local property taxes and state and federal money – increased from $277.6 million in 2023 to $313.4 million in 2024.

Like many municipalities across the state, Genesee County has flourished financially in the past few years in the post-pandemic world. In 2019, 2020 and 2021, the county’s total expenditures exceeded total revenues. But that has changed from 2022 through 2024. For example, in 2024, the county was $14.9 million in the black, thanks to big increases in property tax, state-shared revenue and federal grants.

In 2019, the county collected $92.5 million in taxes and $37 million in federal grants. By 2024, the county had $127.7 million in tax revenue and $71 million in federal grants.
