DETROIT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — Detroit travelers will have more nonstop travel options this summer as Spirit Airlines expands service to cities across the U.S. and Caribbean

The airline announced on March 26 that it’s launching 15 nonstop routes from Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) starting this spring, bringing its total to 40 direct destinations, the most in its history at DTW.

“We’re adding even more popular travel options to our Detroit route map,” John Kirby, Spirit’s vice president of network planning, said. “Savvy Motor City travelers will soon enjoy even more options to enjoy Spirit’s elevated experience at a value unmatched by other carriers.”

New and returning flights will connect Detroit travelers to cities like Austin, Birmingham, Charleston, Hartford, Kansas City, Louisville, Milwaukee, Norfolk, Phoenix, Punta Cana, Richmond, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Juan, and St. Louis. Nine of the routes are completely new, while six are making a comeback after suspension, according to The Detroit News.

The announcement follows a separate wave of new DTW routes unveiled earlier this year, including nonstop service to Baltimore, Charlotte, Pensacola, Memphis, Raleigh-Durham, and San Antonio.
