ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Five dozen universities nationwide, including the University of Michigan, are under investigation by the U.S. Department of Education for antisemitic discrimination and harassment.

According to newly installed Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, “The Department is deeply disappointed that Jewish students studying on elite U.S. campuses continue to fear for their safety amid the relentless antisemitic eruptions that have severely disrupted campus life for more than a year. University leaders must do better,” McMahon said in a statement.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) sent letters to the 60 colleges and universities and warned them about legal consequences if they do not protect Jewish students on campus.

This is not the first time U of M has come under this kind of scrutiny. Last week, the Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL) Campus Antisemitism Report Card gave the Wolverines a “C” when it comes to campus climate for Jewish students.
