LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan was by far the hardest hit state after a series of storms swept through the Midwest on Sunday night, March 30th, after tornado warnings were declared in Ingham, Livingston, Jackson and Eaton counties.

Michigan had 248,206 customers without power as of 8:17 a.m., according to PowerOutage.us.

Utility companies have been working to get power back on for customers since Sunday night. As of 12:25 a.m. Monday, Michigan had 356,042 customers without power while Indiana had 78,790, followed by Wisconsin (57,849), Ohio (41,705) and Kentucky (35,533).

Michigan’s Northern Lower Peninsula had the highest percentage of customers without power. Emmet, Cheboygan, Otsego, Montmorency, Alpena, Crawford, and Oscoda counties had the vast majority of customers without power. For example, Alpena had 18,628 of its 20,443 customers without power as of 12:35 a.m. Monday. That’s more than 9 out of every 10 customers.

In southern central Michigan, Cass County was the hardest hit. There were 10,537 customers out of 26,888 without power in Cass County. By comparison, Wayne County had just 5,022 customers without power out of 782,047.

Consumers Energy released a statement late Sunday night that said there were more than 600 crews from Consumers Energy, Michigan contractors and other states that would be working Monday to restore power.

DTE posted on X asking customers to submit photos of their damage.

“Photos help our team determine which crews and equipment need to be deployed so we can get your lights on faster,” DTE stated.
