LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A Michigan Senate committee is finally addressing the tipped wage and sick leave rules set to change on Feb. 21 if the legislature does not act.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Senate Regulatory Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on a bill to revise the impending changes that those in the industry have described as burdensome. Tipped workers have repeatedly said they prefer the tip credit since they tend to make more money that way than with a flat minimum wage.

Last week, 45 Michigan House Republicans sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids) and urged Senate action on the bipartisan bills sent to the chamber by the House.
Recently, the Senate has been focused on suing Republican House Speaker Matt Hall (R-Richland Township) for not sending nine lame duck bills to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s desk. Republicans say the Democrats did not “present” the bills properly back when Rep. Joe Tate (D-Detroit) served as House Speaker.
