HOUGHTON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan Technological University is boasting another feather in its cap when it comes to research.

The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education designated Michigan Tech as an R1 research institution. That makes the U.P. school one of the 5% of research universities in the U.S.

Michigan Tech officials said this designation will attract faculty and students and open new doors to the university. The Houghton-based school joins Wayne State University, the University of Michigan, and Michigan State University as R1 research schools.
