LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The number of people employed in Michigan has dropped to the lowest since March 2023.
That’s according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics latest report that had employment data as of December 2024.

For the seventh month in row the state saw a drop in the number of people working. There were 4.79 million people employed in the state in December 2024.
The unemployment rate of 5% in December was the highest since the state was in the midst of pandemic in October 2021 when it was 5.1%.
Michigan’s slumping job market ranked it 46th in the U.S. with only Illinois, Kentucky, California, Washington D.C. and Nevada doing worse.
Nationally, the unemployment rate has hovered at 4.1% since June. It was 4.1% in December, dropping from 4.2% in November.
