LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A bipartisan bill in Lansing would add a clear label to synthetically lab-grown “meat” products.

House Bill 4076 boasts more than two dozen sponsors. The bill is designed to cut off lab “meat” at the pass since even though it is not currently available in U.S. stores. Rep. Jerry Neyer (R-Shepherd), who introduced the bill, said many shoppers do not read the fine print while trying to make their way through the grocery store.

“When you’re running the kids around, have chores to do at home, and just got done with a long day of work – the last thing you want to do is investigate whether hamburger came from a cow or a test tube,” he said.

Rep. Neyer continued, “Regardless of how you feel about lab-grown meat, we should all be able to agree that the public shouldn’t have to go digging just to know what they’re buying and consuming,” he said.

The bills have been referred to the House Agriculture Committee for further consideration.
