LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – It’s a sad yarn being told among the crafting community: fabric chain Joann is going out of business and closing all 800 stores.

It marks the end of the 82-year-old company that once prided itself as the destination for DIY and crafts enthusiasts. In addition to the store closures, 19,000 people are losing their jobs.

The closures include an additional eight stores in Michigan. Stores will begin going-out-of-business sales immediately, according to the company. The silver lining is that the Joann brand could survive if another company buys its intellectual property even though its brick-and-mortar stores will be a thing of the past.

Joann, which filed for its second bankruptcy last month, has been sold to liquidator GA Group and the retailer’s lenders. The final sale hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
