EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan State will open its 2025 baseball season in North Carolina against Western Michigan in less than three weeks. Heading into that game, MSU has the Big Ten’s Preseason Pitcher of the Year in Joseph Dzierwa, from Haskins, Ohio.
This award adds to two other preseason awards: being named to the Perfect Game’s All-American third team and to D1Baseball’s Top 150 College Draft Prospect list at no. 121. Last year, he was an All-Big Ten second-team selection and a member of the All-Freshman team in 2023.

He finished last year with 84 innings pitched and 91 strikeouts, which was second in the Big Ten. In his final outing in 2024, he recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts vs. Nebraska and was the only MSU pitcher to have double-digit strikeouts in a game all season.
This season could bring him a career top-10 finish at MSU in strikeouts. He needs 19 to move into the top 10, but he has 151.
