ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Down four points at halftime, no. 14 Michigan State overcame no. 12 Michigan’s strong first half and held the Wolverines to just one three-pointer and 37 percent shooting in the second half. The Spartans took over first place in the Big Ten, 75-62. MSU has won six of the last eight meetings over Michigan and third in a row.
Jase Richardson led the way with 21 points, Tre Holloman added 18, and MSU shot 50 percent from the three-point range in the second half. After shooting just 38 percent in the first half, MSU made 53 percent of their shots in the second, while Michigan shot 35 percent and 10 percent from the arc.

Vladislav Goldin scored 21 points for Michigan, and Danny Wolf added 11 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds.
Michigan trailed 13-6 early in the first half, but a 15-0 run gave them a 23-16 lead at 8:02 on a Nimari Burnett three-pointer. MSU cut the lead to three, 26-23, at 4:44, but Michigan held a four-point lead at the half, 38-34. The Wolverines shot 53 percent and led for over nine minutes.
MSU started the second half with a Richardson three-pointer, cutting the lead to one, 38-37. Jeremy Fears Jr. hit the second three-pointer of the half, taking the lead, 40-38, at 17:55. Goldin tied the game at 40 on a Michigan jumper and put them back in front, 42-40, at 16:26 on a layup. A minute later, Holloman responded for MSU, tying the game at 42 on a jumper.
A Carson Cooper dunk at 14:48 gave MSU the lead for good as Michigan fought to catch up the rest of the way. Goldin put an offensive rebound back up and in at 11:49 for the Wolverines to come within two, 51-49. Holloman nailed two three-pointers in less than a minute, giving MSU an eight-point lead, 57-49. MSU continued to be up by eight, 59-51, at 10:20, and by 7:52, made it an 11-point lead, 62-51, on a Fears Jr. layup.
In two minutes, Michigan responded with an 8-0 run coming within three, 62-59, on a Goldin layup at 5:37. With just over four minutes to play, Will Tschetter still had Michigan within striking distance on a jumper to be within four, 66-62. MSU’s defense finished the final four minutes, shutting down Michigan and not allowing any points, going on a 9-0 run for the 13-point win.
MSU has now put itself in a strong position to win the Big Ten, but it still has to face Michigan one more time, along with no. 11 Wisconsin and no. 20 Maryland.
