LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – President Donald Trump doesn’t appear to be messing around. He’s paused federal grants and loans during an across-the-board review of government spending.
No more money…for now.
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) oversees the federal budget and said the money will be put on hold until a review is completed. The OMB acting director, Matthew Vaeth, said they are evaluating if the grants line up with the Trump administration’s priorities, like the elimination of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs and other “woke” agendas.

Vaeth did not mince words. He said using federal resources for programs that go against Trump’s “America First” policies are “a waste of taxpayer dollars that does not improve the day-to-day lives of those we serve.”
In addition, the memo froze money designated as “foreign aid” and “nongovernmental organizations.”
Democrats scramble.
This move has triggered panic among Democrats and entrenched bureaucrats.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel issued a statement, saying “My department is learning already of services impacted throughout [Michigan], including Medicaid and Head Start. We are receiving reports of critical impacts to significant programs many millions of Michiganders rely upon daily for vital services.”
Nessel said she is working to determine what the orders mean and that she intends to file litigation to protect programs and services. In addition, Nessel said she has requested an “immediate legal remedy to restore funding provided by Congress, require this administration to comply with the law, and to stop this absurd and unprecedented attack on these programs.”
Democratic U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin, who ran numerous campaigns on being bipartisan, issued a statement in lock-step with her party. She claims her office is being “inundated with questions from local mayors of both parties, universities, veteran care and nursing homes, people who have had cancer trials stopped, childcare centers, farmer programs, Army contracts – all fearful that they will need to take drastic action to end programs and grants.”
