OKEMOS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The cost of a regular school bus has increased significantly as school districts deal with inflation over the past few years, according to an Ingham County school district.
The Okemos Public School district purchased two non-electric vehicle buses in 2024 and it cost them $138,312 per bus, according to a memo released by the district sent out by Corrinne Karpinski, the director of transportation.

A regular school bus cost the district $97,000 in 2021, according to the memo. The 2024 cost was an increase of 43% in two years.
The memo stated if the district wanted to buy the same bus in 2025, the cost would be $146,699. The district was buying the bus from the Holland Bus Company.
The school district spends $1.4 million a year on its transportation department.
