LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan will be well represented at the presidential inauguration on Jan. 20.

Lorenzo Sewell, the senior pastor at 180 Church in Detroit, will give a benediction after President-elect Donald Trump is sworn into office.

It’s not the first time Sewell has been in Trump’s corner. He spoke on the final night of the Republican National Convention in July 2024. At the time, Sewell spoke about pushback he received about inviting Trump to his church during his campaign. Sewell said Trump visited the church during his birthday weekend.

“Let me ask you a question, grand old party,” Sewell said in his speech. “What would you do for your birthday if you were worth $6.7 billion? What would you do for your birthday? Would you come to Detroit? Would you come into the hood? He came to the hood because he cares about average, everyday Americans,” he said.

In addition, Sewell gave the benediction last Wednesday in the Michigan House as the new session began. Last month, he gave the opening prayer at the Michigan presidential electors session.

Sewell isn’t the only one representing Michigan in D.C. next week. A Loadmaster garbage truck that Trump drove to a campaign rally last fall after President Joe Biden called MAGA supporters “garbage” will be featured in the inaugural parade. Loadmaster is headquartered in Norway, Michigan, a small town in Dickinson County in the Upper Peninsula.
