LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Fifty-three Michigan lawmakers penned a bipartisan letter to Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Director Scott Bowen and demanded answers regarding the allowance of public land to be used for solar panels.

The site in Otsego County near Gaylord is 420 acres that could be cleared to make way for the solar panel installations.

Rep. Ken Borton (R-Gaylord) said those actions should result in mass firings at the DNR. “Any person who thinks swapping trees for solar panels is a good idea has no business being employed by the department tasked with responsibly managing and protecting our natural resources,” said Rep. Borton. “DNR staff either completely forgot their job or were entirely corrupt from the start.”

Public outrage exploded over the past few days as project plans surfaced. RWE Clean Energy operates a solar field next to the public land and said it will no longer be expanding to the 420 acres of public land.

In addition, lawmakers demanded to know about other locations around the state where the DNR is leasing public land for solar, wind, and green energy projects.

The legislators also demanded the DNR release any information on other locations where the DNR has agreed to lease public land for private green-energy use.

“House Republicans aren’t going to stop digging until we uncover every single place the DNR plans to kill wildlife to further the radical green energy agenda,” Borton said.
