On Thursday, temperatures marked 18 degrees at 9 a.m. as the transit company canceled two trains on its Wolverine route and alternate bus transportation was provided for both trains.
Amtrak employees on the trains say the toilets are freezing on the Michigan trains and can not be used. That was confirmed by a company spokesman. Amtrak’s Michigan Wolverine route from Detroit to Chicago can carry almost 300 people. In fiscal year 2024, the Wolverine route had 425,832 passengers.
Amtrak cancelled 18 trains over six states on Wednesday and had already canceled eight trains in seven states as of 9 a.m. Thursday.
