ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) Starting January 26, Ann Arbor will enforce a new On-Street Snow Parking Ban aimed at improving snow removal during severe weather.

The ordinance, unanimously approved on January 6, allows the City Administrator to declare a parking prohibition whenever “weather conditions make it necessary to restrict parking to allow removal of existing or forecasted snow.”

Notifications will be issued at least 12 hours in advance via radio, social media, and the city’s website.

Exemptions include vehicles displaying a “Disability License Plate or Disability Parking Placard” and “street blocks where there are no driveways,” though vehicles in these areas must park as close to the curb as possible. Additionally, certain streets will be exempt due to “inadequate off-street parking, safety concerns, or other site constraints,” with a map of exempt streets published by the city.

Violators may face fines or towing, though the city plans to focus on education during initial enforcement.
