KALAMAZOO, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Opening the Bowl Season on Saturday, Western Michigan will be the first team featured as they take on South Alabama in the IS4S Salute to Veterans Bowl. The game will be on ESPN at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday.

“We are excited for the opportunity to compete in Montgomery, Alabama in the IS4S Salute to Veterans Bowl. This is a great opportunity for our football program and our university. South Alabama is a well-coached, physical team that will be a great test for our team. This is the 12th bowl game in school history and we are thrilled to represent Bronco Nation and WMU in this awesome bowl game,” said head coach Lance Taylor.

WMU earned their sixth win in the year’s final game with a 26-18 victory over Eastern Michigan to finish 5-3 in the MAC. It is the most MAC wins since 2019, posting the top-scoring offense this season.

South Alabama is 6-6 and went 5-3 in the Sun Belt Conference West Division. It will be the first meeting between the two teams.

The last time WMU went to a Bowl came in 2021 in the Quick Lane Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit vs. Nevada. The Broncos won the program’s second-ever bowl game, 52-24.
