ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Ann Arbor’s Democratic leadership is taking a curious approach to “preparing” for Trump’s second term. The city is getting financially prepared to fend off policies from President-elect Donald J. Trump’s second term in office.
On Monday, December 16th, the Ann Arbor City Council, all 11 of whom are Democrats, voted to set aside a whopping $1 million to respond to potential negative local changes brought about by the incoming Trump administration as reported by WEMU.

With Trump securing a clear mandate from the American people – winning the Electoral College, the popular vote, sweeping all battleground states, gaining ground nationwide, and clinching victories in 2,552 counties (compared to Harris’s 382) – Democrats are in a frenzy, scrambling to fortify their ideological strongholds before their grip on power slips away.
And rather than responding reactively to every unfavorable Trump policy the Ann Arbor City Council is likely to oppose, they opted for a proactive approach by securing anti-Trump funding in advance. City Administrator Milton Dohoney Jr. pitched the idea to the Council, emphasizing the convenience of pre-approved funds saying it would be “easier for you to simply ask us to tap a line item that you have already approved. And if the money is not used, it would simply be there for another purpose.”
Trump-proofing around the nation.
Ann Arbor isn’t the only place that is trying to “Trump-proof” their government. It’s happening across cities, states, and even within the White House, where the Biden-Harris Administration is racing to push out executive orders, regulations, and funding to fuel their ideological agenda, including priorities like climate change, DEI initiatives, affordable housing, and more.
Nationally, Democrats are scrambling to enshrine Biden’s legacy – or what’s left of it – before it’s steamrolled. USA Today even reports efforts to pack federal agencies and courts with loyalists, presumably to delay the inevitable rollback of their pet policies. These are the same Democrats who constantly champion the sanctity of “democracy,” emphasizing that every vote matters – though their rhetoric often seems to exclude Republican votes.
Trump-proofing and Republican-proofing Michigan.
Michigan’s Democratic-led state government has also been rushing to pass progressive legislation before losing control of the House in January and before Trump takes office. Their agenda includes driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants, lenient crime policies, and expanded transgender protections, among other priorities.
Rejecting reality.
Instead of an honest introspection or policy adjustments, Democrats have been going full steam ahead with the same ideas voters rejected in November. Some would probably call what they are doing “progressive gaslighting,” where losing the popular vote, electoral vote, and public opinion still

hasn’t stopped them from pushing their agenda ahead and trying to sell unpopular legislation to the electorate. Meanwhile, Trump’s victory reflects a nation ready to prioritize other issues like border security, economic growth, and sanity over woke sermons and bureaucratic overspending.
Trump-proofing or losing touch?
As Democrats scramble to Trump-proof their communities, it’s becoming clear that their actions are less about protecting residents and more about salvaging their own agenda. Doubling down on a losing strategy, they appear focused on saving face while funneling money to their progressive agenda as long as possible. These moves only underscore a glaring disconnect between their ideological bubble and the voters who delivered a resounding message at the ballot box on November 5th.
