TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Traverse City spent about half of the $1.65 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money so far. That’s the money provided by the federal government to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The biggest expenditure to date through November was $500,000 for the building of a a $10 million plus Senior Center. The city also handed out $110,800 in employee bonuses in December 2022. The city also has designated $200,000 to have new trees planted throughout the city. The city projects to have 2,215 new trees by fall of 2025.

Since receiving the money in 2021, the city has made $44,500 in interest on the money.

The city has spent $873,937 through November and has $824,480 still remaining. By the end of this year, all ARPA money has to be obligated to a project or the municipality must return the money to the federal government.

The $1.8 trillion dollar ARPA was passed in March 2021.
