LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan Secretary of State and self-described protector of democracy Jocelyn Benson may keep the press out of her statewide community conversations “to make everyone feel safe.”
Journalist Sam Robinson first posted about the possible change.

A member of Jocelyn Benson’s PAC tells me they may prohibit press from attending future community conversation events with local lawmakers “to make everyone feel safe.” I asked for an email to reach out ahead of the next event and they refused to provide one.

Other media told Michigan News Source that their live stream of the events triggered Benson’s comments to pull the plug.
Benson has been traveling the state meeting with community members and lawmakers to “ensure our families can live safe, healthy, prosperous lives.” Many have speculated that this is Benson’s unofficial way of kicking off her 2026 gubernatorial campaign.
This is not the first time Benson has spoken out of both sides of her mouth when it comes to transparency. During the fall election cycle, Benson turned off the comments on many of her X posts.
