LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan State Police (MSP) have a new tool they hope helps autistic drivers and passengers.

New stickers can be added to cars to alert troopers that someone with autism is in the car. Someone with autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may have difficulty processing words, facial cues, directions, become easily stressed, or may be nonverbal.

“People with autism who have communication differences or behavior challenges can often come in contact with police, as a driver or passenger in a motor vehicle,” Michigan State Police said in a post on X. “Troopers understand there may be communication barriers that will affect the interaction on a traffic stop.”

The post continued, “If you or someone you know has autism you can get one of these laminated stickers to place on your vehicle to alert police officers when approaching a vehicle. The stickers are available at our posts throughout the state.”
