LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – General Motors is selling its stake in Ultium Cells LLC’s battery cell plant in Lansing to LG Energy Solution for $1 billion.
The battery cell plant in Lansing is nearly completed and LG Energy will have immediate access to it to begin equipment installation. The stake sale transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2025.

Michigan House Speaker-elect Matt Hall (R-Richland Township) denounced the move. “General Motors is demonstrating, once again, a troubling pattern of fleecing Michigan taxpayers and workers. Cutting a side deal to pull out of Michigan and keeping taxpayer money is egregious,” Hall said.
Hall looked ahead to Michigan Republican majority in the state House on Jan. 1. “House Republicans will always fight for Michigan workers when big corporations try to strongarm our state’s leaders, break their promises, and flat-out renege on deals.”
