DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Sunday was a hard day for Detroit. Their winning streak ended against Buffalo, and four players were lost for the year. Running back David Montgomery and defensive players Alim McNeill, Carlton Davis III, and Khalil Dorey were lost for the year.
Montgomery hurt his knee and sustained a sprained MCL, but he will get a second opinion. He was on pace to have a 1,000-yard rushing season with 775 yards on 185 carries and 12 touchdowns. He also had 341 yards receiving, averaging 9.5 yards per catch.

Head coach Dan Campbell said on Montgomery, “David’s so tough. He continued to play through it and then got it checked out on Monday and realized that what it was. He’s just the ultimate teammate, ultimate competitor. We’re going to miss him.”
McNeil tore his ACL and is out for the rest of year. As a defensive tackle, he has posted 25 tackles with 3.5 sacks with a forced fumble. Davis III fractured his jaw and will be out indefinitely. He had 56 tackles with 42 solo, a forced fumble, and two interceptions. Dorey had a season-ending ankle injury and recorded 14 tackles and two passes defended this year. All three join the list of defensive players lost for the season that, includes Aidan Hutchinson and 12 other players.
These guys helped us get to this point, so we owe it to them. They laid it on the line for us. We acknowledge the fact that we’ve lost players, we’ve lost really good players, but nobody cares. Nobody cares and nobody’s going to give us a pass or put an asterisk next to your record,” said Campbell.
Detroit is 12-2 and first in the NFC North. It has already clinched a playoff spot and should receive a first-round bye. The Lions still have the Bears in Chicago on December 22, play in San Franciso on December 30, and host Minnesota on January 5.
