EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Mark Dantonio, the winningest coach in Michigan State University football history, was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame at the National Football Foundation’s award diner on Tuesday night. This is his first of two inductions, as he will be inducted into the 2024 Rose Bowl Hall of Fame class on December 31.

Dantonio coached at MSU for 13 years, retiring in February 2020. HE was 114-57 at MSU and 132-74 overall as a head coach in 16 years. He won three Big Ten Championships in 2010, 2013, and 2015, two Big Ten Championship Games, and the 2014 Rose Bowl and 2015 Cotton Bowl. Those numbers are more than any other MSU football coach in program history. His teams also finished in the top 25 seven times as he was the first coach to record five 11-win seasons in six years.

“It’s a surreal moment and very humbling. It’s what I call a program award. There are so many different people that are involved in this. I would like to think the culture was built on hard work, built on effort and toughness and knowing what to do, and our guys bought in. Whenever I see our players, it’s about the people, its about the growth and individuals. I have continually said all along, it was a special time at Michigan State with special people at a special place,” said Dantonio.

He is the fifth MSU head coach to make it into the College Football Hall of Fame.
