BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Earning their sixth Super Region Three Championship in the past eight years, no. 1 Ferris State University is hosting the NCAA Division II Football Semi-Final playoff game on Saturday. FSU leads NCAA Division II with 10 straight NCAA playoff appearances and won 11 games for eight consecutive seasons before last year. They will take on Slipper Rock (Pa.) in their first-ever meeting.

FSU boasts the State of Michigan’s best winning percentage of the 21 collegiate football programs over the past 12 years under head coach Tony Annese with a 135-21 record. He has an 86 percent winning percentage and is the winningest coach in the GLIAC.

Slippery Rock (Pa.) comes to Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, ranked 12th in the nation after defeating no. 20 California (Pa.), 31-13, last week. For the second year in a row, they have won 12 games and are 3-0 vs. ranked opponents this year.

“We play another great opponent and the combined losses of the three teams we have played in the playoffs has been three losses. Each team had one loss in the regular season. All have been great teams and all of them believing they could win it all. They have a complete team and done a great job this year and it’s definitely going to be competitive and challenging for us,” said Annese.

FSU knocked out defending national champion Hardin University, 41-7, to enter the semi-finals. After their season-opening loss, they have outscored their opponents, 575-126, this year.

Grand Rapids native Trinidad Chambliss is a national finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy as one of the best players in NCAA Division II. He has thrown for 2,551 yards with 22 touchdowns and a 147.3 efficiency and posted 817 rushing yards with 20 touchdowns.

The game will be on ESPN+ at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
