DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – There is a lot to be thankful for in Detroit on Thanksgiving – their best start in team history, winning on Thanksgiving, and first win in Detroit on this day since 2016. Detroit held off a feisty Chicago Bears team, 23-20, to move to 11-1.

“We’re going to enjoy this,” said Detroit Head Coach Dan Campbell.

Detroit opened up with a 16-0 lead at the half but scored just seven points in the second half. Chicago had a chance to win the game, but Detroit’s defense came through. A Bears’ penalty at the Lions’ 13-yard line that would have been a first down pushed the ball back to the Detroit 35-yard line. A sack by Za’Dariuis Smith put the ball at the Detroit 41-yard line and out of field goal range as the game’s final play became an incomplete deep pass.

Jared Goff threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns as David Montgomery rushed for 88 yards. Amon-Ra St. Brown caught five passes for 73 yards. The defense recorded five sacks, Smith had 1.5 sacks, and Brian Branch led the team with six tackles.

It was Detroit’s first half that propelled them to the win. Campbell commented, “We started off pretty hot offensively and defensively.” Four of the first five possessions ended in a score with three field goals and a touchdown.

The win snaps Detroit’s seven-game Thanksgiving losing streak. They host Green Bay next on Thursday Night Football.
