PONTIAC, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – After months of back and forth over jurisdiction and responsibility, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald formally referred the 2021 Oxford High School shooting case to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel for investigation.

McDonald vowed full cooperation with any investigation Nessel’s office conducts. Her Friday referral came five days after Oxford families demanded a state-led investigation into the Nov. 30, 2021 shooting that killed four students and injured seven others.

Last week, Nessel and McDonald sparred in the media over which office had the responsibility to lead an investigation. McDonald said Nessel could step in any time; Nessel said she needed a formal request.

The teen responsible for the shooting and murders is service a life sentence without the possibility of parole. His parents are service 10-15 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter since the jury said they ignored their son’s mental health problems.
