LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – In a move of cognitive dissonance, Democrats prove they are still tone deaf to Michiganders who voted to flip the state red for the Michigan House and President-elect Donald Trump.

State Sen. Stephanie Chang (D-Detroit) introduced legislation she said would enable more expectant parents to receive prenatal care in a group-based setting. It’s the language used to describe the bill, not the content of the bill itself, that highlights where Democratic values still stand.

“Senate Bills 1127 and 1128 would require private insurers and Medicaid to provide coverage for group-based pregnancy support programs, which are shown to have significant benefits for both the birthing parent and baby,” Chang wrote in a press release. “Childbirth classes offer a critical service to moms-to-be and birthing people, allowing them to connect, build relationships, learn together, and find support in others who are experiencing the same things at the same time.”

In an email to constituents, State Sen. Mallory McMorrow (D-Royal Oak) used the same phrasing. “This legislation would require private insurers and Medicaid to provide coverage for group-based pregnancy support programs, which are shown to result in improved health outcomes for both the birthing parent and baby,” McMorrow said.

This bill package now heads to the Senate Committee on Health Policy for consideration.
